FASTENED TO THE MOON 2019 Kaufman Winner A “wild, thought-provoking ride” set in the early 70’s on the West Coast of Florida, featuring noble astronauts, bumbling lawmen, a drug-smuggling sociopath and an innocent young woman who may soon be arrested – or perhaps murdered.
NO, everything hasn’t stopped. The trees have become green and are creating shade. I see birds flying. No ornate birds, pigeons, sparrows, finches, catbird, cardinals, starlings.

Was I drowning? Over and over – How far down – The wave took me – Like the smallest of pebbles – I saw light- Through half opened yes – Was Oddly calm – Afterward terror – Remembered – Scraps of a line – You can’t tell the horizon – Caught in the waters force so – It owned me entirely – Could not, should not reach – Over and over – How beautiful the light – Blue- Mermaid – Sea grass- Heard no rushing – And then out – on the rough sand.
